The breakfast was in an old rail car that smelled like mildew. I wanted to report my frustrations, but there is no one in the office.
Quaint. Reminds me of my grandparents house. Very comfortable.
However, on Monday I did talk with a lady about the rate I was charged. Told her I had seen on the hotel's website that military gets a discount. She gladly gave me a 20% discount for my husband's 21 years in the Marines. However, the room was still not worth $193.
Wednesday before arriving on Friday in El Dorado I made reservations for my husband and I to stay one night. While making my reservations I had to spell my name 3 times. D e b r a. Really!! The guy never quoted me a price for the night. And I did not ask because several of my friends live in El Dorado have been quoted $130-150 a night for previous visitors. Well, I should never assume it was going to be that price. On Thursday before arriving on Friday I got an email stating I was quoted the price of $241. Well, I started to call, but thought this room will be extra nice. Let's just say the room was extra large, clean, air conditioned, with a good mattress that needed pillows for sleeping instead of all the decorative pillows. It was decorated with very worn out dated decor like it came from a garage sale. The bathroom floor and extra vanity was peel and stick tile that had missing pieces on the vanity.
They've got an odd process to get your room key if there's nobody at the front desk, but otherwise it's a great little place. Owner is incredibly friendly and accessable through phone at any time. Rooms are clean, though you can stay for weeks and still never run into anyone who works here. Aesthetically, they've got a really quaint antique sort of feel with big vaulted ceilings and exposed brickwork. Most of the furniture appears to be cool antiques as well. Great feel if you're a hipster. Breakfast is bare-bones but it gets the job done. Tons of berries, some meats, and eggs all served in an old train car. Place-settings make it feel like fine dinning, with cloth napkins, wine glasses, and fancy plates. Juices and coffee are available as well. It's in the dead center of town, less than a block from a coffee shop (live music sometimes), ice cream parlor (frozen yogurt), sandwich shop, and steak house, all of which seem to be locally owned and operated. Larger chain stores are a bit farther away, car recommended for those trips. Great stay in a cool small town! Feels a lot more authentic than bigger chain hotels.
A great place to stay in town! The rooms are very spacious and have a great atmosphere. Highly recommend staying here if you visit El Dorado
Great place to eat, friendly staff, and great prices!
